HYBRID EVENT – ESMO IN THE ALPS
Medical oncologists discuss practice-changing studies from ESMO 2020 at a live-streamed and in-person Hybrid Event in Switzerland
Project Description
On September 21st & 22nd, 2020 the SAKK Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research invited medical oncologists to attend a unique hybrid event called "ESMO in the Alps" which was hosted in a lovely hotel in Zurich.
This was produced in parallel to the #ESMO20 Virtual Congress, where Swiss experts reviewed and discussed the most important practice changing studies of the congress providing local relevance to the attendees for their daily clinical practice. The event was conducted in a Covid-19 socially distanced manner with 25 live attendees and over 90 joining virtually. The preliminary programme included live connections with study authors and generated lively debates on topics of GI, GU, Breast/Gyn, Lung, Sarcoma, and other tumour types.
This resulted in a successful and green solution which met 100% of attendees expectations.
“I think it’s a great way to go during the Covid-19 pandemic. We have the opportunity to watch all the interesting abstracts, but at the same time, to also discuss it in person and socialise with our colleagues, even if we have to take care of all the measure for social distancing.”

“I think this kind of meeting where you have a mix is probably something to strive for. I believe that when data is presented at international congresses, there is also a need for the majority of the physicians to discuss these among colleagues, in order to be able also to understand what are the clinical consequences of the new presented data.”
